The Fukuda Vision
"The introduction amount of the photovoltaic generation will be increased to ten times by 2020 and forty times by 2030 in Japan. "
Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said on June 9th at the Japan National Press Club.
Market Facts
- Approximately 40% of the world’s cell production is in Japan
- Japan government has set a target 4,820 Megawatts of solar power by 2010 (the equivalent of five 1,000 MW-class nuclear plants).
- Japan is the second largest country market for photovoltaics. In 2006, the country installed a further nearly 300 Megawatts of solar photovoltaic energy.
- Stimulated by large government funding programs, Japan has one of the largest on-grid solar energy markets in the world.
- Sharp, Kyocera, Sanyo and Mitsubishi are among the largest cell manufacturers in the world and have major cell manufacturing facilities in Japan.
PV Resources
- The SEMI Global Photovoltaic Database provides one click access to many of the most important organizations in PV. SEMI Members can find detailed information on equipment makers, materials suppliers, and component manufacturers anywhere in the world, including capacity plans for each manufacturer (where available). SEMI PV Group continually seeks data on companies to include in this knowledge base.
- The SEMI Photovoltaic Technologies, Equipment, Applications, and Markets report offers a full description of the industry’s markets, technologies, manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials, as well as key figures, analyses, and useful tools for strategic decisions.
- More information on SEMI Global PV activities is available online at www.semi.org.
